A quick note as to what's been happening this month. I've been going through some old 4 track tapes and digitizing them. Of course in order to do that I had to find a working 4 track. Thanks to Ian Grey, who introduced me to new friend Patrick, I have one and have been slowly going through all this stuff. I started down this road essentially to remix and remaster Ladder Jak's untitled and unreleased album that I recorded for them along with Steve Goossen. I'm dying to put all the new skills and tools I have now to work on stuff I recorded more than a decade ago.
Then the stumbling block hit me. Those recordings were done on a Tascam 488 not my Tascam Porta 5hs. They are 8 track recordings not 4! ugh. Of course the 4 track I got from Patrick isn't going to waste. I have a stack of tapes to go through and have already found some stuff I didn't know existed (ie a Ladder Jak recording with yours truly on lead guitar!), but what I really wanted to get at I can't. Lo and behold comes the aforementioned Mr/ Grey to my rescue!
He owns a non functioning Tascam 688. So a trip to a local electronics repair shop and... we cross our fingers and hope this guy with the social skills of a 7th grader can fix the damn thing. I'll keep you all posted.
To complete this trip down memory lane I have also taken it upon myself to remix and remaster the Ramshackle record I recorded back in 2000. I've already improved it a great deal with the new mix. The mastering will take it even further.
I also gave Eric Brown, of Physician Heal Thyself, a bunch of tracks for him to play with. I'm hoping that whatever he does with them can make it onto our early summer release calendar.
Anthea and I haven't quite found the time to work together again on what is shaping up to be a great record. Scheduled real world stuff keeps interfering. ugh.
